Meet Matt - Nashville Therapist
Hi, Iām Matt (he/him). I am trained as a Marriage and Family Therapist, which means I think a lot about how our relationships shape our experience. This certainly includes relationships with partners, family, and friends, but also our relationships with self and the systems in which we live. Finding balance and harmony in these relationships can be challenging, if not overwhelming. I count it as a joy and privilege to be invited to ally with you in this pursuit.
I have an integrative approach to therapy and pull from a variety of empirically informed theories and models. I combine appraoches in a way that feels authentic to me, while being uniquely tailored to meet your personal goals and needs as they emerge. Using this authenticity, as well as a calming presence, deep listening, and curiosity, I endeavor to provide an experience for you that generates meaningful and lasting change.
I enjoy working with individuals, couples/partners, and families, and count diversity and difference as integral to communal and personal health. As such, I ground in humility and openness regarding dynamics of power and privilege associated with all of the intersecting identities - yours and mine - that show up in our work together.
My clinical experience, research, and personal interest has facilitated work with a number of challenges that can be helped with therapy. Nashville residents with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, identity formation, issues related to spirituality and religion, substance use, couple/partner conflict, LGB/TQ+ relationship and identity, and consensual non-monogamy/poly relationships are all cared for in a loving environment.
I hold an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University where I gained clinical training at the Bette D. Harris Child and Family Clinic. In addition to curriculum requirements, I conducted research en route to my degree. My thesis explored the dyadic coming out process in mixed-orientation relationships and is currently seeking publication. Post graduation, I completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Polebridge, Montana. Nashville therapy does not have to be focused exclusively on your mental health ā true wellbeing means understanding that our minds and our bodies are one.
